The Humble John Chapman
In 1776 he was a bare-foot boy of 3. He began an empire, being a bearded vegetarian. He wore a gunny sack and a tin pot hat. Living by his own rules he killed no animals. He loved the earth and believed men were his brothers. He wandered with the sun, westward, for hundreds if not thousands of miles. Traveling light the only papers he carried was a bible. He had tremendous courage carrying no knife and no gun. Being in poverty, with no home for more than 40 years, he finally died with white hair, lying against a tree trunk, alone except for the forest. This real and true hero is known to you and me as Johnny Appleseed.
