The Role of Gil in FFXIV Questing and Story Progression

One thing that FFXIV does really well is giving players plenty of ways to make and save Gil. Core gameplay gives back a fair amount of Gil through questing, dungeons, raids, and the Duty Roulette and Challenge Log. Those who devote time to Botany and Mining can easily make a solid income from selling gathered materials. Tomestones of Poetics also grant Grade 3 Topsoils which can be traded with Bertana for Unidentifiable Shells and Ores.

Crafting and Gathering

FFXIV players are able to earn Gil in many ways. Some of these involve Market Board investments (which can be risky for new players).

Crafting and gathering are also good sources of money. A gathering class, such as Miner or Botanist, can gather natural resources throughout Eorzea and sell them to a vendor for a good amount of Gil. Food buffs are another way to gain Gil, with each meal giving a 3% EXP bonus. Taking on FATEs such as Eureka or Bosjan Southern Front is another great source of Gil, and can be done in a group. These activities can be quite time-consuming, however.

Treasure Maps

Players can make a steady stream of Gil through the various Duty Roulettes that are part of the Challenge Log. The more difficult roulettes provide better loot that sells well on the market board, while even the basic ones can be a good source of in-game currency.

In addition, those that have a home can make a lot of Gil by crafting furniture for it. This can be done by any crafting class, though Weavers and Carpenters are especially good at it. Glamour gear that drops on the maps is also worth picking up, as it can be sold for millions of Gil on the market board.

Tomestones of Poetics

Having a large amount of Gil is useful for many reasons, from buying catchup gear to allowing you to easily level up new jobs. It also allows you to buy a lot of the game's best consumables and boosts. One of the most reliable ways to make Gil quickly is through the Duty Roulette Main Scenario. Unlike other duties, these give a bonus reward of Allagan Tomestones of Poetics (Poetics).

This can be used to purchase augmented gear sets from Auriana in Mor Dhona, or to upgrade gear through the Retainer Ventures NPC in your Foundation in Ishgard. It can also be used to buy boosted food stacks from NPCs found in the city market areas.

Ventures

While it may seem a bit tedious, exploring the world and interacting with it can be a decent way to earn Gil. There are many quests that reward solely in gil, including some treasures and dungeons. Players can also participate in randomized duties through the Duty Finder to get make gil ffxiv in a more passive manner. However, the amount of gil earned per quest is relatively low.

As a result, this option is better suited for more experienced players. FFXIV does feature more small Gil sinks built into core gameplay compared to WoW, which only offers repairs and flight as major ones. One of these is the Market Board, which can be a great way to make gil in bulk over time.

Class Quests

In addition to the main quests and dungeons, players can earn some Gil from class-specific class quests. These typically involve battling monsters, gathering items, and performing other duties, which reward Experience Points or Gil.

A few of these class quests also include items players can sell to the Market Board for a small amount of Gil. The best of these are the items that can be desynthesized, which offers rare materials for crafting more valuable gear. Another class-specific way to make Gil is by cultivating certain plants, such as thavnairian onions. This requires a Free Company house or personal home, as well as time to tend the garden, but can be highly profitable.

Re-Sale

Many of the game's dungeons and story missions offer players the chance to passively accrue Gil without much effort. However, it's important to note that these methods can only take a player so far before they start to burn through their Leve allowances.

One of the quickest ways to make Gil involves re-selling items. Choosing high-demand, low-level crafting items that sell for a decent price on the marketplace can yield quick profits. It also helps to choose items that are sold near the release of major patches. Players can also profit from re-selling the treasures they find on Treasure Maps. These rare mini-dungeon instances can yield a variety of materials, such as thavnairian onions, that sell to junk vendors for a respectable amount of Gil.
