Fake meats might as well have a halo above them as their marketing is so convincing but our biggest concern with so many of these food products is that not enough people are asking what they are made of or how they are created.
Firstly there are the misleading ingredients...
Many of the foods created for the vegan, vegetarian, flexitarian market are hyper-processed foods full of highly processed ingredients like isolated proteins and industrial vegetable oils.
Transparency of sourcing or methods of plant production aren't part of the conversation either, rather it’s simply a case of slapping on a label ‘suitable for vegans’ and it’s all good.
We do eat too much meat and that needs to change. By reducing the demand for cheap meat, it removes the economic incentive for factory farming and all its destructive impacts. We shouldn't simply replace that with lab-grown meat that is so far from real food, made using GMOs that have depleted the soil and destroyed biodiversity." (Info from Pipers Farm)
