Organizer of Canadian "Freedom Convoy" arrested
The organizer of the Canadian Freedom Convoy, Tamara Lich, was arrested by Ottawa police last night (photo). In addition to her co-organizer Chris Barber, numerous other representatives of the "Freedom Convoy" were also arrested.
The two main organizers of the so-called Freedom Convoy, Tamara Lich and Cgris Barber, a truck driver from Saskatchewan, were arrested in Ottawa. Lich was arrested by police in Ottawa Thursday evening and Barber during the day. Both remain in police custody and, as it looks, face criminal charges, they say. Both those arrested and the protesters present remained absolutely peaceful in the process.
Two of numerous arrests
The two have been called key ringleaders of the protests in Ottawa, which have been going on for three weeks now. Their arrests were one of several that took place last night.
Licht herself confirmed to the Canadian Press that before that, she was there herself when Barber was arrested and taken away. Lich said she would have expected the arrest, having already had her personal bank account frozen before that.
The Ottawa police would not say anything about the arrests: until charges were filed, they would neither confirm nor deny investigations against individuals.
Blocking bank accounts of government critics
"Starting today, a bank or other financial service provider can immediately freeze or block a bank account without court intervention... If you are a member of a pro-Trump movement and donate money, you should be concerned that your bank account could be frozen ozu," said Canadian Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland two days ago.
The announcement was followed by faster and more far-reaching action than expected: On the basis of the mass protests of the truck drivers, the government not only froze and blocked the bank accounts and assets of supporters of the protests, but in the future this action should also be extended to all "government critics".
